About This Course
Through extensive hands-on instruction, students will acquire skills associated with medical laboratory workers, often called clinical laboratory workers. Medical Lab Assistants assist in the performance of tests under the direction of pathologists, medical technologists, and/or medical technicians. These tests are performed with a scientific team in modern surroundings on samples of blood, tissues, and body fluids to detect changes caused by various disease states.
The Medical Laboratory Assistant course is a CTE program that will lead to students earning industry-recognized certification and helping them to explore laboratory science careers. The need locally, regionally, and even nationally is extremely high for medical laboratory professionals from the entry-level positions, like phlebotomists and laboratory assistants, to the top positions such as medical laboratory scientists and pathologists. Students will have the opportunity to be certified in CPR, Heart Saver/First Aid through the American Heart Association.
