New School Year Letter for Parents

Dear Barry Tech Parents and Guardians,

Congratulations and welcome to the Joseph M. Barry Career and Technical Education Center for the 2026-27 school year!

We are excited to have you join the Barry Tech family and look forward to supporting you as you begin this educational journey. Whether your child is exploring a new career pathway, developing hands-on technical skills or preparing for future college and career opportunities, we are committed to helping them succeed.

If you were unable to attend one of our orientation sessions, don't worry. Important information about our programs, school expectations, transportation, student services and other helpful resources can be found on the Barry Tech website:

The journey at Barry Tech can be both stimulating and rewarding, and we want to help ensure a bright future for our students by working closely with you, our families, and your home school district. We look forward to developing a partnership with the common goal of success for all students.

A few reminders for all our families:

• The first day of classes is Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026. Our doors open at 7:15 a.m. for the morning session, and the first bell rings at 7:45 a.m. For the afternoon session, our doors open at 11:15 a.m., and the first bell rings at 11:45 a.m.
• All students will be issued a Student Handbook that outlines school policies and procedures, including the New York state bell-to-bell cellphone policy and the Barry Tech attendance and grading policy. Students and parents should review the handbook. After reviewing it, please sign the declaration on Page 2 and return the signature sheet to your teacher.
• All transportation is handled by your home school district. Please contact your district directly if you have not been advised of your pickup time or bus schedule to or from Barry Tech. We ask families to be patient during the first week of school as it takes several days for schedules to be fully coordinated between home school districts and transportation to and from Barry Tech.
• Students may only arrive at and depart from Nassau BOCES Barry Tech by district school bus or through parent or guardian drop-off and pickup at the designated campus location. Walking onto campus from an off-campus parking location is not permitted. Students may not park on surrounding streets, in neighboring parking lots or in nearby residential areas and then enter campus. Please see the attached campus map for additional information.

High school seniors may apply for on-campus parking permits once school begins, provided they:

• currently possess a valid New York state Class D driver's license; and
• require access to their vehicles for after-school employment related to their course of study at Nassau BOCES.

A limited number of parking permits will be available in mid-September. Students are not permitted to drive to school or park on campus until they receive a parking permit.

• Parent-Teacher Back-to-School Night: Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
• Parent-Teacher Conferences (Virtual): Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2027, from noon to 2 p.m. by appointment
